It rains a lot in Vancouver. And the skies are all cloudy all day. So that might have something to do with the Scandinavian disposition. In the 2000s, Vancouver earned the unfortunate moniker of "No Fun City." The powers that be extinguished the annual fireworks celebration because it was sponsored by a tobacco company. They put an end to the Molson Indy car races because it was brought to us by beer. They even shut down some of the most popular bars downtown at 1:00 a.m. with last call coming as soon as half twelve because some folks didn't like all the noise. Live music venues dried up, the blue-collar clubs were shuttered, and the nightlife of the city beat gave way to early mornings, wheatgrass shots and snooty downward dogs in the park.
